Question Help With Appoximate Age

Hello All,

It has been a while since I have been active here. I have recently moved to Washington State and my books are not all unpacked yet. I am looking at an .38 spl. M&P, S/N: C 115443. Can anyone help me with an approximate date of manufacture? I am hoping for 1948 or older.

Thanks for any assistance offered.

Jackpot! Probably around early 1950. Welcome back .

Since serial number C1 was on a frame that was assembled on March 22, 1948, yours cannot be older than 1948.

C103673 shipped in April, 1950, and C152420 shipped in February, 1951. Yours is in between these two somewhere. I suspect a ship date of sometime in the summer or autumn of 1950 would be a good guess.

Thanks Jack. I decided 1950 (or so) was old enough. The gun is in pretty good shape. It is on consignment so I am waiting to see if they accept my offer. Not my birth year, but close enough.

I would agree on late 49 or early 50.

C 2077 11/48
C 46336 1/49
C 53207 2/49
C 84786 8/49
C 153239 3/51
C 237356 1/54

As you can see, you are not the only one attracted to these early .38 M&P's.
