Default Triple Lock Help and FMV

Stumbled across this yesterday. I'd say she's 75-80%, a shooter, locks very tight, muzzle wear, scrawled initials on the bottom of the grip strap. Serial #11080 and is written in faded black grease pen on the backside of the grips. .44 Special. Price is $3K. Is that a fair market value? I was unaware of written serial numbers. Thanks!

Nice gun, but I'd say that's about double market value.

Yep, you are paying full retail there and then some. $1500 max! I'd feel more comfortable a shade under that, even...

So anyhow------there's this book----been around for about twenty one years now----fourth edition came along not too long ago. It tells about these guns we like to talk about---and gives some guidance about the value. This guidance comes from forty some odd folks now known as "The Midnight Pricing Panel". There are some pretty hip dudes among those forty some odd folks. If they were to charge a fee for their wisdom-----individually or collectively, it'd be cheap-----no matter what the amount was----and it would be a bunch!!

So anyhow-----this book is for sale----has been right along. It's cheap too----maybe 1% of the asking price for this gun (just to try to put such things in some sort of perspective).

So anyhow----right here, right now, is what this book has to say about the value of guns like this one-----free for nothing. What it has to say is presented in words and numbers. The words are talking about condition, and this book also tells us what these words mean. So here goes: ANIB-$12,000; Exc+-$7,500; Exc-$5,000; VG-$2,500; Good-$1,500; Fair-$950. (Now I realize most of these words aren't really words, but the book tells us what they mean-----and the book is pretty particular about it too.)

So anyhow--------------

Ralph Tremaine

Oh---and these numbers are about a year and some odd out of date. You might want to bump 'em a bit to account for such.

Also, serial numbers were generally written in pencil inside one grip. Often, that's barely or not evident. A grease pen serial number was written by someone at a later time.

Price seems high to me too. I paid less than that for a nice TL target model about two years ago.

However, you may, over time, find that the first one you find, is also the last one you found.

I would definitely consider trying to work a deal on that one.
