K22 Masterpiece
New to the site and S&W revolvers. I now have a S&W K22 3screw, serial # K 294xxx. From the serial# it seems it should have been made in 1957 but i thought 3 screw did not come out until the early 60's. Looking for some more information about it.
Thanks
Ed

Welcome Ed
Being new to nice old S&W's...That is what you have.
I'll bet your not counting that one in front of the trigger guard or maybe that one hiding under the grip.

Hi Ed and welcome to the Forum.
A K-22 Masterpiece with serial number K294xxx would be from 1957, shortly before model numbers were applied (Model 17 in this case).
Yours would be a four screw revolver. There are three in the sideplate and one in the front of the trigger guard. The top sideplate screw was eliminated in 1956. The one in the trigger guard - the cylinder stop plunger retaining screw - was eliminated in 1961 on this model. Keep in mind that the rear-most sideplate screw is covered up by the right stock panel.
Enjoy that old Smith. It should shoot like a champ. I've had five, four and three screw K-22 Masterpiece revolvers and all of them, without exception, have been excellent shooters. I suggest you experiment with different brands of .22 Long Rifle ammunition to find the brand your revolver likes best. My experience with these (more than 50 years) says some of them like one brand the best and others like a different brand. No one knows why they are picky, but they are.

Thanks for the replies. I was not counting the plunger retaining screw. I was just looking at the 3 in the side plate. Thanks
