Default Grips for my Terrier

Found these Jay Scott pearloid grips on eBay this past week. What do you think? White or Black? I'm leaning towards the black. Also, it appears that the Terrier grips that we're on the gun aren't numbered to the gun. How would you read the serial # on the back of the grip in the photo? That "0" below the 5830 has me wondering. The gun's serial # is 496XX. Oh, and please, no General Patton jokes!

Nice. I love the Terriers, and have a couple. I think that yours is probably a pre-war, though, from the serial number. It's hard for me to see on my iPad, but it looks like it has the strain screw on the front of the grip frame for the early flat mainspring.

Also has the one line address, another indicator of pre-war. I believe the walnut stocks are probably close to what would have been issued, but hard to tell from just the back. That style of rounded service stock was used both pre and for a short time, post war. It is an "I" frame, and the stocks are slightly shorter than the post 1953 "J" frame stocks.

Sounds like it may have been shipped sometime in the late 1930s, but I'll bet there will be some real experts along soon....

Best Regards, Les
