Nice one! I remember seeing magazine ads for moon clip mods back in the 70's. Can't remember gunsmith's name.

Great looking revolver.

I do not own a moon clipped 6 shot N-frame, but I think I have some samples from the SHOT Show, if I can locate them, they are yours to try out.

Very nice workmanship. I notice the markings on the barrel are well centered. Just wondering, is the barrel rib checkered? I am wondering if the 'smith replaced the original barrel with a 5 inch barrel from an M27 (instead of cutting down the original one).

The finish varied on the M28s. Some were really matte and others were very close to the standard S&W blue.

Maybe the 'smith did a superb polish / re-blue / "re-mark" of the barrel when he shortened it? I'm grabbing straws too ...

I know there were some 5 inch barrel guns for the Florida Highway Patrol contract. Those guns were Nickel, but at some point the barrels were in the white.
The question. Would a barrel blank that was to be on a Nickel HP get a better metal polishing than a barrel blank that was to be on a blued HP?
I am trying to find a reason why the barrel on this HP has such good bluing.
Grasping at straws.

Bill,

Yes, it's a fact that the factory polished guns that were to be plated, too a much higher level. Otherwise the standard polish for blue, especially the matte finish on the HP would show thru the nickel.

I like it ,it's good when you find a great gun that someone else spent there money to customize and you get to enjoy it.
