Default Old eyes model 10

Old eyes having issues seeing the front blade of my model 10. So nail polish to the rescue.
Yes a bit ghetto but I think it may work. Tried white but needed some contrast. Gwrring the mrs a card for mums day and strolled the nail polish isle. Lol.

To each his own I guess. I have several revolvers with red front sight inserts and I always paint them black. That all started when my eyes got old and I needed bifocals...

I have far sight and astigmatism which makes the front slim blade difficult to see.
I've been shooting Smokey loads and that doesn't help the little blade. Tried white and red and hope green is better.

What ever works to keep you shooting and completely reversible. I have used fluorescent green and red before with good results.

Traffic Cone Orange nail polish for me. Held up that and a bottle of neon lime green in a modified weaver stance to choose what was best for my eyes. WAL-MART employees suggested I make my decision and move on out of the cosmetic section. Old eyes model 10

I've never colored a sight, but have traded into some that had nail polish on the front sight. I remember when I removed the polish from the first one with the wife's nail polish remover, I used my magnified visor to be sure it wasn't damaging the blue. Stuff is amazing, only attacked the polish and not the blue. Next thing, she'll tell me to get my own bottle and I'll be in the cosmetic isle too.

I've done the same with model paint on my Model 10s and that fixes it for my old eyes. However, my 3" Model 36 is a different story. It has the narrow 1/8" front sight. I just can't see it anymore. I'm thinking of trading it off on something else like a 15-4 or a CZ75 BD.

Don't worry, I like my 36 and haven't been able to talk myself into trading it just yet. I mostly have K frames and another 10 or a 15 would be a likely replacement. Until then, orange Model paint on the front sight!

So you know, CZ75s fit my hand better than any other semi and I shoot them well. Even still, I have to brighten up a CZ75's sight also

My favorite pocket carry is this 638, but I found the matte sights look dark against a dark background and light against a light background. I experimented some. First I tried white nail polish. The overly made up young lady behind the counter looked at me kinda strangely; I'm not their usual nail polish buyer. I told her: "It matches my hair", and she didn't know which way to look. Next I tried bright red; a different girl this time. With great difficulty I refrained from telling her: "It matches my eyes". The red worked out well for me against most backgrounds. I found I was having trouble seeing the rear sight, so I found some matte black and it solved the problem.

I had a cz. Nice pistol until I got a jam rather double feed. Very small real estate.

You know, I'll bet the cosmetics area would be a stellar place to "girl watch". I'll ask for lots of advice from the good lookers - Lurk, if you will.

Wonder how that would play out. Let's see now:
Girl behind the cosmetics counter calls security "There's some troll up here - been hanging around for half hour or more - he's harassing the ladies!"

Mall cop shows up - "Would you come with me sir?"

I will not! I'm just here for some bright nail polish - something I can see when the lights are dim and a little polish remover JACK!, what's your problem?!!

Next scene: I'm clanking my mall purchased Starbucks cup across the steel bars of a mall prison cell.

Next is mall court, mall bondsmen, mall lawyer's, my Lord, this is gonna be expensive!.....................on second thought, I think I'll just keep bumming off the Old Lady.

I have one of those. It's amazing if a little heavy. It's my favorite carry gun right after my SIG P226 with E2 grips. I only like the sig better because it's lighter.

My preference for sight color is yellow front and light green rear. Not a combination commonly found. An alternative to fingernail polish is Testor's model paint. Where most nail polish is laquer, model paint is enamel. Neither stand up to gun solvents very well.

I have the same problem with the stainless sights on my 67 no dash. I've been reluctant to paint those so I don't shoot it much.

I've used model paint on front sights, usually red and orange.
I found the most effective method is to apply a white paint layer first, let it dry, and then put the bright paint over the top of the white paint.
Orange/red (or green, for that matter) on a white base provides a much brighter contrast than against bare blue steel.

My daughter taught me that one. Been using some metallic white as a base.
Good thing is if one doesn't like the color its easy enough to change.
Besides my mod 10 is far from collector grade.

I'm 74 and shoot 2X a week on average and mostly a an indoor range that has normal indoor lighting that makes the front sights harder to concentrate on.

My solution is not painting the front blade but using targets with red centers or applying a 2"-3" florescent orange sticker.

I use nail polish on mine also. I've got a bottle of white and a bottle of BRIGHT orange. I got it at the Dollar General

When I was looking for it I noticed a couple of people who seemed to be interested in the old, fat guy, with the white hair and beard at the nail polish display. I just held the bottle up to my nails, examined it a second or so, then put it in the basket.

Give 'em something to talk about.

I guess I'm the odd man out.... I prefer black (matte blue) front sights, and see them better than anything else. No color for me,.... thanks, I'll stick with what came on the gun. Even the stainless front sight on my Model 64 is preferable to colored with nail polish or paint. And, yes, I shoot quite well that away........
