Howdy again, gang!

Picked this up at a pawn shop for $30 and would like your help once again identifying make/model/birthday.

Serial on bottom of barrel: B 42691, elsewhere just 42691
5 screws- missing a couple

The correct designation is .32-20 Hand Ejector Model of 1905.

The B in front of the serial number on the barrel flat isn't part of the serial number. It simply indicates that the gun left the factory with a blue finish.

We have just been discussing a couple .32-20 HE revolvers (.32 Winchester models) with serial numbers a bit higher than yours. I think it is fair to say that yours probably shipped in c. 1909 or 1910. However, since they didn't ship in serial order, it could have been later.

The stocks on your example appear to be from the WWII period and are not correct for your gun.

I noticed the top side plate screw is missing. What else isn't there?

This one has had a bit of a rough life, but it should be a fun shooter. For $30, you definitely did the right thing rescuing it from the pawn shop!

The screw in front of the trigger guard and firing pin are both missing also. She needs some serious TLC.

Ouch! If the screw from the trigger guard is missing, it seems likely that the plunger and spring for the cylinder stop is also gone. I would not shoot this revolver until that issue is addressed.

I can't figure out what screw you mean that is related to the "firing pin." Are you talking about the roll pin that holds the hammer nose to the hammer? If so, it isn't a screw. Otherwise, please explain or show us a picture.

BTW - nearly 50 years ago I was stationed at Lowry for a time. I understand it no longer exists, but the point is, I once lived in your town.

I didn't mean a screw when I said firing pin. Sorry, I meant the actual firing pin on the hammer is missing.

Up until a month ago, I lived next door to Lowry. The hangars are all still there and have been repurposed for retail/beer garden/restaurants. The whole base has been converted to a wonderful neighborhood with most the original buildings still in use. Wings Over The Rockies Museum is there. Great neighborhood!

Would you know if this is a 1st, 2nd, 4th, etc.? Or does that matter?

This is a 1905 2nd Change from 1906-1909. You done good for $30.

Great buy but in need of some critical parts to ever function. There are numerous parts suppliers listed here on the forum but it may take some doing to gather all that you need to make this gun right. It is highly possible that this gun was stripped of these components to make another gun or guns function as many times you will see folks recommend that one buy a beater gun to salvage needed parts from.

You can either try to find another beater gun and make one from two or attempt to locate the missing parts from suppliers, gun smiths, the internet or by placing a WTB ad here on the forum.

Many of the members here have cigar boxes full of old parts left over from their project guns and will part (pun intended) with them for little or no $$$ to help someone rebuild an old Smith.

I hope this ain't out of church but "gungarage" sells nice screw kits and separate screws at reasonable prices, I try to keep a set on hand at all times. I think you did great, have fun with that one.

The closest SN on my list is 420xx which shipped in 12/1908. So it's very likely yours shipped in 1908-09. Depending on exactly which components are missing (which we don't know) it may not be too difficult to get it back into shootable condition. That is, if you can find ammunition.

From what you have described as missing, aside from the upper sideplate screw Numrich seems to have all the parts you need in stock here:

Certain current S & W models have the upper sideplate screw, no idea if it is the same size and thread type as the old one but a call to factory customer service may answer that question. Good luck in the restoration and please post the "after" photos.
