Your revolver was produced about 1954. At the time, its model name was simply The S&W .357 Magnum. In 1958 this model would be designated the Model 27, so collectors sometimes refer to your gun casually as a Pre-27. This configuration incorporates several design changes that were introduced in 1950, so the Pre-27 designation would not be valid before that year.
The lack of original stocks reduces its value for collectors, but if it hasn't been refinished it might still bring between $700 and $900 depending on local supply and demand. Prices are simply higher in some states than others.

That certainly looks like a 6" barrel. A very fine revolver, at the time it was considered the top of the S&W line. It's an N-Frame, if you didn't know.

The original grips would have been Magnas with a diamond around the screw head.

It would at least be interesting to see some close-up pictures of the hammer, and to learn what, if anything, might be written (stamped) on either side---and if anything is written on the bottom of the spur.

A very nice looking .357 Magnum. I agree with David that 1954 is a likely production date.
Here's a photo of the stock style you are looking for. These came on a .357 Magnum from 1952.
