Default Wife's new 31-1, pics of new stocks

Got this today. Wife asked "you got another gun? I like it." Me: "yes, I got it for you." Wife: "Thank you." The Pachmayrs are a little big for her, she likes the wood stocks on the other one. I'm going to look for diamond magnas for it. I have targets on all my guns and they are all K frames.

New pics at #9.

That's a very nice pre 1967 .32. Magnas like it came with are hard to beat.

I've got just two words for that gun, "suh wheet!"

For a slightly built lady (or anyone else for that matter) the low recoil of the 32 S&W Long makes for comfortable or even pleasant shooting experiences, encouraging more practice time. As long as the shooter's hand is not entirely too large for that grip style, the scale of the gun to its cartridge is about perfect. There are some great non-factory smooth combat grips that compliment the frame size and not only look good but enhance handling and preserve concealability.

If you don't already reload for the 32, you might want to consider starting because I predict your wife will want to shoot it a LOT!

Regards,
Froggie

PS If you like factory style targets on your K frames, the J frame targets like those found on the Model 34 might be worth a look. I've put them on several of the small frame (I or J) guns with good results.

I also recently purchased a 3" 31-1. 60s vintage, diamond grips almost like new. It had the absolute worst trigger pull of any S&W revolver I own. I opened her up and put a couple drops of breakfree where needed and put a factory mainspring from my 60-4 and I believe a 13# wolf rebound spring in that I had laying around. It was definitely an improvement, but still needs a full wolf spring kit, the next time I'm ordering something big. I also noticed the sights on those things are tiny compared to a newer J frame. The skinny blade matched to a rear notch a dime probably wont fit in, will let you know real quick how old your eyes are getting.

Default New stocks

I found a pair of correct stocks for it, and they came today. They still need a little adjustment, but look much better. They should fit her hand better too.

Put a J-frame t-grip on it for a better grip and still be old school cool.

I too am a great lover of this cartridge, and the older Smiths that shoot it. As Green Frog points out, handloading is a great way to increase your enjoyment of this combination. I use Bullseye, and a couple of grains per load means that you could get up to 3,500 rounds out of one pound of powder!!!

Shooting these wonderful little marvels is easy on the recoil as well as the pocketbook, and they are amazingly accurate. I have posted most of mine on the forum at one time or another. I think you need to get another one for yourself!!

Best Regards, Les
