Default Current going prices on K22 ODM 1st Models

Haven't followed these in awhile . Guns with boxes in 97-98% , regardless of box condition seem to be asking $ 2K on up . So how much does a period correct box add to the value ? How about a S&W K frame prewar grip adapter ? Looking @ following here locally :
1) Shipped 12/31 2 screw rear sight , period correct grips not matched to gun , factory letter , just the gun probably 97%
2) 98% period correct non matching grips with box in fair to good condition ?
3) 98% non matching grips , box in good to VG condition , factory grip adapter , no letter ?
4) 96-97% all matching , no box or letter ? Both boxes are shelf worn on the bottoms with no clear #'s , so for sake of argument say period correct but non-matching .

Prices vary based on the greed of the seller and the overflowing wallets of the buyer. Since I only have a handful of the guns, I'd only sell for what I consider to be a good price. Be aware that the correct or period correct boxes for the early ones are maroon hinged box. The later red picture boxes are much more common but usually priced higher. The guns alone are probably worth more than $1.5k. With a box you'll be lucky to score one for under $2k. I'm going to guess a complete outfit will cost you $3k. Before you choke, understand that complete includes the elusive screwdriver. The one nobody ever sees. You asked for opinions, so I gave you mine.

Dick - just let me know when you are ready to sell something . . .

K22 First Models are often found for sale, but as Dick noted, you will find many sellers asking for well over $2K for the gun only in not so great condition, but if those guns are still for sale, they are over valued. Not to say that a few won't sell for those high prices, but not a majority of them. To break down values, the infamous red box is not selling for over $1000 empty and if you can ever find the early maroon boxes, probably more. A decent K22, 1st should sell for something over the $700 mark today. A really nice one will get above $1000 and a near-perfect specimen would probably sell for $2000 plus at auction. If you find an original grip adapter, I would say it could sell for $250??

You can add up those values as you wish, but I usually see that the set will not command the same value as if sold piece by piece right now. I picked up this decent first year K22 Outdoorsman, two years ago for $500, but would probably go closer to $800 today at auction.

Let me add the valuations that were published in the latest Supica and Nahas SCSW4. Fair $750, Good $1500, Very Good $1850, Excellent $2400, and ANIB $3000. Personally, I think those values are too strong, but read the book in a year and they might be low.

FWIW, a friend of mine picked up a well used/carried one with about 60% finish remaining for $550 OTD. I am truly happy for him and envious. It is an exceptional shooter and he carries it on his farm and uses it.

I joked to him the other day, heck you still got about 50% of the finish to wear off in your lifetime, which got a good laugh, but is true.

Last one I saw several months ago had incorrect grips and maybe 70%-75% condition otherwise. Asking price was $800.
