Default "New" Grips for K22

I am very fortunate to have met jmace57 on this forum. A couple weeks ago I posted that I was looking for larger/target grips worthy of my 1948 K22, given to me by my late Father. The original Magna's are beautiful. However, I'm just a tad shaky when shooting with them.

I'll let the pictures speak for themselves. I can't believe I have these early 50's beauty's on this family heirloom.

jmace57 even shipped them to me to inspect prior to purchase. Ya think he had an idea I'd love them? Looking forward to range time. And I'm sure my Dad approves.

Thumbs up

Better wear gloves the first few times out.
The checking is sharp enough you might get hurt.

Nice combination

An outstanding set of non-relieved K Frame Target stocks. As I have a few sets of these myself I can guess what they cost. Some of the finest from the early 50's when S&W made their finest revolvers.

I liked the look and feel so much I already went on ebay and did a buy-it-now on a set of target's for my early 80's Model 14.

One precaution to keep in mind with the unrelieved target stocks: The extractor and case rims can, and will make contact with the wood. Most of those stocks that have been used very much have dents and divots from that contact.

Yes. That is precisely the reason the "football" relief came into being. It had nothing whatever to do with speed loaders, as some people assume. Speed loader use led to the full relief that showed up first in the 1970s.

I am also in the "S&W target grips on a K-22" club. Mine are on a 17- something 8 3/8". Your non-relived grips are beautiful! Shooting that combo will be a pleasure , based on my experience. Be real careful when ejecting.

Enjoy your heirloom. (envy...)
