Default S & W .38 M&P Model of 1905 4th change Type 2 Hammer Block

Hey Folks. This is what I have been up to lately. I hope I have this one identified correctly. If not someone pipe up and let me know. When my customer brought me this revolver it was in terrible shape. This is a four screw side plate type. It was originally in nickel, which was in horrible shape. Several mechanical issues like the hammer block plunger spring was dead, this also controls the hand for the movement of the cylinder. The muzzle crown was kaput and several other issues. I will start with pictures of the gun when it was brought to me. I will then post pictures of the ongoing process to restore this revolver to the customers specifications.. I hope you enjoy the work I did to this revolver as I think it turned out very well, from where it started...

Default Part # 2 After the nickel and some repairs

In this next set of pictures I have the revolver back from the Silversmith and have had the nickel struck from all of the meatl parts. I have cut a new muzzle crown and turned it into a round butt from the original square butt configuration. You can see the gun taking on it's new life from the old and bad condition it was in. The owner debated having the nickel finish redone but in the end he chose to have it blued.

Default The finished product

Well, here we go. These are some of the pictures of the finished product. I am not the best photog in the world. Some of the pictures seem to show issues with the final bluing but I can assure you they are smudges in the final wipe down oil. The bluing is deep in color and very even when you are holding this gun in hand. Let me know what you think as well as what you might have done differently. I would like to know. I hope you enjoy this gun as I have truly enjoyed doing the work...

Default Final Shots

One of my gunsmith friends did the bluing for me. I did the color case Harding blue on the trigger and the hammer. All in all I think this little revolver turned out very well.

Default Something definitely wrong!

Yes it is terribly wrong that the revolver belongs to someone else and not me! All kidding aside, it is hard to believe that the finished product is the same revolver! Please excuse all of the explanation marks but I am really excited seeing what can be done to revive an old revolver!

Thanks Kenny D. This one was a lot of work, but it will all be worthwhile when I put it in my customers hands and watch his face light up...

Well, Charles, now we know who your gunsmith is!! Great job to you for seeing the potential in the gun, and to BPG for the fantastic work.

Best Regards, Les

Well les.b he never fails to bring me a challenge. Smiths are my favorites to work on. Nothing like take a mess and turning it into a good revolver. I have worked on a lot of smiths since I opened.
