Default Not non-buyers remorse

I was out cruising around earlier today checking out a couple of my favorite local gun stores. I wasn't jonesing for a fix, I Have bought two toys already in the last month, but I am always on the lookout for something interesting.

I spotted a 4-screw, flat-latch 2" round-butt pre-Model 12. Good cosmetic condition. Timed correctly on all six bores both single and double action. Good lockup and the crane wasn't tweaked. They only wanted $400 for it, which I considered very reasonable, but...

I don't have any safe queens. (Well, OK, I do have one.) If I own it I shoot it and I just couldn't figure out when I why I would actually shoot this thing. So I passed. Comments-Criticism would be appreciated.

Price is reasonable, I agree. I certainly would not be afraid to shoot it. But if you don't have a need for it, or a want, then you did the right thing by keeping your money in your pocket.

I have a tendency to do the same thing. I will see something that I think is a good deal but wasn't really looking for or thinking about and think about grabbing it but if I wait a day or to and really think about it, I realize that I would most likely bring it home and let it sit. I like shooters.

I think I'd be tempted... especially anything pre-model.. k-frame, snubbie.. Model 12's are usually a bit dinged up (carried a lot and not shot much) and with the alloy frame, the finish is not always up to par.

If you do re-consider, be sure to check that there are no cracks in the yoke/frame area.

Ain't no elephants in PA, so why do I own a 458 magnum rifle? Why buy another .22 rifle when I own about a dozen of them?

I often buy a gun just because it is available at a good price, or I just like it.

Truth is, when ever I go hunting, carry, or go to the range, it is always the same dozen or so guns I always turn to. The rest get fired once in a while, but really pretty much just take up space in the safes.

My theory is if I get something I like at a good price, even though I don't really have a need for it, I can always flip it down the road for something I really want, or for the cash if needed.

Problem is, its a lot easier to buy a gun then to later talk yourself into selling it....

That's how you end up with an elephant rifle in PA.....

Larry

Fishinfool has made the point rather perfectly in my opinion. Also, other posters noted that the "pre" guns in good shape are good buys and I believe that too. If nothing else, wadcutters or light, low velocity loads make it a nice 2" shooter. The just don't make them like that anymore also prevails I'm thinking. I think that I would have bought it.

If you're not kicking yourself, you made the right choice.

I always ask myself, will I regret not buying it later? If the answer is no, I pass. That goes for more than just firearms, too.
