Pawn Shop Find
I started this in another thread. Finally picked it up today!
M&P Model of 1905 4th Change 5" RB. S/N 27552X. Dates to 1917. Apologize for the so-so cellphone pics inside an autoloader softcase.
These were taken after a thorough cleaning. I am willing to bet my next paycheck that I'm the first one to crack it open in 100 years. It would have shot fine, I'm sure, but very dry and dusty. I doubt it had been shot much, very faint turn line. Pawn shop guys said it had been brought in by the son of the deceased owner who'd had it for some time.
Bluing is really strong, bore VERY bright, a few scuffs but all and all excellent shape considering its age.
Learned a few things disassembling and assembling. I've taken apart my postwar guns but never had one this old. Getting the hand back into the trigger and tensioned was... tricky. I wish there was a YouTube video for these older guns.
Anyone have a good source for an inexpensive leather flap holster for a 5"? Everything I find is for a 4".

Now THAT is a pawn shop find! Ver ver nice!! I'd say most likely Dec 1917.

Noted. I wouldn't be carrying it around either. I just like to have a sling for every long gun and a holster for every handgun...just in case it's ever needed.

Great find !
I have been looking for a nice 5" flap holster for quite some time now.
My 5" 1905 sports a 6" Lawrence flap with about 1" of something stuffed in the toe.

Congrats on your great "Centennial" gun!
BTW, speaking of centennials, my paternal grandparents were married 100 years ago yesterday! 100 years is a great celebration, both for people and Smith and Wessons.

I agree with S42N8, Simply Rugged holsters are the way to go, great product good pricing. They are made in the next town over from me by a bunch of U.S. Veterans. I have a pancake on right now, with a good belt, I can't even feel it.

It's pretty rare, I agree. But sometimes people just bring down "dad's old gun(s)" and "dad" took care of his stuff.
