Default 38/44 or pre 23

I think that's what I got

38Spcl, 6.5" bbl, S1312xx

New enough shape that the recoil plate is real clean

Yep you have a screamer of a 38/44 Outdoorsman (pre 23).

Congrats and enjoy!

I'm guessing it dates to 1956. Don't just keep it in the safe, shoot it! So much fun.

Wow! I have owned two outdoorsmen in my lifetime. Wish I still had both. In about 1960-1, I had a nice 4". My uncle took a shine to it and traded me a like new in the box nickel 1911 for it. Then in the '90s, I had one like yours for a time. Traded it for something that I needed worse. For what? I don't remember, but I can tell you that gun trading can be a dos ease. I used to trade, buy, and sell, just for the "trade," not for what I traded for.

Beautiful.
It was a bit before my time, but I have often envisioned these sitting on old LGS or hardware store shelves for a time, being marked down occasionally due to the average shopper leaning much more toward the newer/more versatile .357's on the market, while these were 'old .38's'.

S140375 shipped 4/55 so my guess is early 55 or maybe late 54. I think 1956 is too late unless it sat for a long time.

My dad just gave me my grandfather's 1941 (best I can tell) 38/44 Outdoorsman. He used it when he was motorcycle cop (with a 6.5" barrel?) during the '40's.

I am looking forward to shooting is next week.

Enjoy yours. It is a beaut.
