It is a .38 Military & Police model, made in 1948.
The stocks are an aftermarket addition.
It looks to me like the hammer and trigger have been blued, which would indicate a refinish job not done by the factory. Yet the sideplate seam is quite tight. I'm not sure how I would price this one.

If I had it a show, I would put $350 on it and take $300.
It is a utility house/truck gun. No collector value to me. Best

It has been allowed to surface pit a little after the re-blue too - Bargaining Chip!
Rub your oily fingers along the outside of the barrel, near the frame. There appears to be a slight bulge, that will not affect shooting in my experience - Bargaining Chip!
$300 as a shooter would be top-end around.my neck of the woods. $250 would be better.
