I need help identifying exactly what i have and what grips would have come with it. 5 screws. Fixed sights. 6 inch barrel. Sn C195908. Square butt. No model number. 38 S&W.

Welcome to the Forum.

Should be a Military & Police, chambered in .38 special. .38 S&W is a shorter, slightly fatter cartridge. Grips would have been post WW II Magnas with a diamond around the grip screw hole.

It probably shipped in 1951.

More specifically, the period-correct grips are of the style called the sharp shoulder Magna, used from about 1946 to 1953. But any Magna grips, new or old, will be OK. You need grips for a K-frame. Your M&P is likely to have been shipped in mid-late 1952.
