Default triple lock parts compatibility

Folks,
I have a 3 digit , 1st year 44 hand ejector (triple lock) that has been re-nickeled .. I have need for a case colored hammer and trigger set for it.. Another member has a hammer available, but I'll still need a trigger. I have located an N-frame trigger, but don't know if the N-frame stuff will work.. Any info on this is appreciated...
TIA,
JIM...........

Don't have an answer to your question, but if all else fails, the original hammer and trigger could probably be stripped and redone (if they weren't buffed to death). Turnbull's used to offer that, but not sure if they still do or not.

I don't believe Turnbull will work on S&W guns any longer. There are other companies out there that will do case coloring.

Funny thing is that some of the 'other companies' send parts to Turnbull for case hardening. I wasn't sure whether they still offered that service to the general public or not, but I know they did a few years ago - even after they "officially" stopped offering complete restorations on S&W's.

Might be worth investigating....

Might want to check on Turnbull's turnaround time. Last I heard it was over a year.

No other N frame hammers are correct. The TL hammer and trigger are unique and have chafing bushings that identify them as correct for TLs.

The 1917 Army 45 ACP hammer and trigger are the only others that will work but not correct for TLs.

I'd keep yours and have them re-case colored. There's other places that will do it.

455 Second Models use the same hammer and trigger with chafing bushings.

So do the very earliest 44 Second Models. Attached is a pic of the guts of a 44-2nd shipped in 1916 with a serial number in the 14,600 range.

Hi Lee,

It's been awhile, glad to hear from you.

And thanks for the info and photo. I always wondered if and suspected that might be the case.

Also interesting that 2nd model #14,6XX is in the TL range. I hadn't heard that but did hear that there are TLs in what's normally considered the 2nd model range.

Yes, I have some overlaps between TL and Second Model SNs on my SN list.

No personal experience with Ford's, but recent comments on a Colt Forum have been very negative about restoration work by them.
Just FYI.
