Default 38/44 Heavy Duty Model of 1950. pre M20 6.5 inch

Looking for some help on value on this one...
Wasn't planning to sell, but college tuition for the kids is priority now...

This one has the agency marking removed from back of grip frame. Could it be a Washington State patrol HD? Condition is very good, grips do not number to gun. All other parts have matching serial number. No service marks. Gun only, no extras. Please help with thoughts on value. Don't see too many 6.5" HD's out there to compare.
Thanks in advance!
Tim

With that barrel length and backstrap condition, your guess about the WSP is probably correct. Bill may be at the Symposium but will probably be along shortly with a value estimate and more information.

Nope, not many. And that makes it hard to nail down a current fair market value....

That said, I have one (in about the same condition) that was most likely WSP issue. Back strap has also had markings removed. It's in the S 148000 range and was shipped to Port Transfer Office in Seattle on 10.31.55.

I don't think $800 - $900 would be unreasonable, and I wouldn't be too surprised to see one sell for $1000+....

Default My WSP 6.5" HD

I know....old thread! But here's mine.....these photos are from a 1987 printing of the SWCA Journal......But I currently own the gun.
The back-strap is marked "Washington State Patrol" and this revolver went home with Trooper Larry Baker when he retired from WSP.

Let's make sure I'm not missing something here. If the photo of Trooper Baker is actually from 1947, the gun he's pictured with can't be the same gun you now own. There were no short action HD's in '47....

Well, if the gun in the photos is the same one being aimed in the photo, I'd guess the "ca. 1947" is off by a few years

I have seen a fair number of Transitional 4" HDs that shipped in the 1946 time frame, so it is possible Trooper Baker had two different issued guns?
