N Frame Smooth targets and a .357 Mag
Found these on the local board and worked out a deal with the guy. The smooth non-relieved targets came with a nice 1961 6 inch highway patrolman.
I hate to even admit it but I bought the package just because I had to have the stocks!
Here is a quick picture that I snapped

Nicely done... you're not the first to buy a gun for the grips around here. They appear to be Walnut (instead of Rosewood) non-relieved Target Stocks from approx 1950-1960ish. Even a very slight possibility someone special ordered target stocks with the 28. I've heard of non-relieved target stocks being shipped on guns as late as 1962. Either way I love the early target stocks and they're valuable in their own right. Is it a 28-2? Enjoy!

It is a 28-2 the serial number is S209,xxx
I doubt that they are original to the gun, but I guess it could be a possibility. Im not sure on whether they are walnut or rosewood, they definitely have a more red hue in person im just a terrible photographer.
Now I just need to find a 50's target gun to match them up with...

I bought a pre 17 last year for the non-relieved stocks but they're not nearly as nice as the ones you got on the Highway Patrolman. Think I would have had to buy those too. Enjoy.

The medallions look like they could be the plastic ones they used for a while in the early 50's. Just thought I'd mention that before you decided to dunk 'em in acetone. If they are plastic, they'll disintegrate in acetone.

I was thinking about possibly cleaning them but completely forgot about the plastic medallions that were used.
Is there a definitive way to tell, besides the hard way?

Heat a sewing needle and touch it to the part that protrudes through the locating disc on the back side. It will sink in a little, and you should be able to smell it if it's plastic.

Post deleted. I'll stat a separate thread rather than hi-jack this one.

I don't think they are plastic medallions but I'm not sure I want to take a chance on it
