Default Another K22

I live just south of Atlanta and try to stay out the city as much as possible. Friday, the wife and I had to go to the Apple Store in mid town Atlanta to swap out a dying iphone.

The good wife got online and found a gun shop to stop by on the way, it was a second generation family owned shop. They had some very nice stuff including a pristine three and half inch 27-2 that was out of my price range a $1500(sorry, I don't know why I didn't take any pictures).

They did have this K22 K 212876 more in my price range at $700.00 OTD.

It has some muzzle wear and thinning finish. At $700.00 its not the deal of the year, but I really like the feel of early K frame targets and would have pass this one up without the grips/stocks. The hammer measures .500, would that be a target hammer? The trigger is standard width.

A quick search K 212876 shipped somewhere mid 1954, I think I will probably throw some more money at it and get a letter to see if the grip/stocks are original.

All a letter will tell you about the stocks is if the gun shipped with the standard Magnas or Target style. The only way to know if those stocks are original to the gun is if they are serial numbered to the gun, and targets usually were not! The stocks on your gun are correct style for the time period though.

Nice snag, and with non-relieved target stocks. Curious, what shop was it?

Nice snag, heck, those non relieved targets are worth a bit on their own! Two years ago I bought a nice 53 vintage K-22 just to get its non relieved targets. Good job Sir, enjoy that one.

Yes, I would have passed on this one without the non relieved targets.

Yeah considering the stocks are worth probably 2 bills atleast. Looks like you got a beauty for around $500, and I would buy them all day at that price if I could.

Just a follow up, I did letter this gun and it did come from the factory with the target grips and target hammer.

I think even more interesting the last two guns I have lettered were shipped to E. K. Tryon , Philiadelphia., one was bought here in Atlanta and one off GunBroker.

What are the odds of buying two guns, one from 1947 and one from 1954 and have them letter to same seller, E. K. Tryon must have sold a tremendous amount of firearms.

I know there has been several threads on E. K. Tryon.

What are your thoughts?

Winner, winner, chicken dinner! I would say the chances are excellent that those are the original grips that shipped with the gun! They are the right time period and I can't imagine the original owner swapped them out for something similar.
