Default First time 4-Screw

With kids in college I've sworn off visiting gun stores and unfortunately this forum.

Well I was running way ahead of time performing some work out of town and swung into a gun store... "Would you like to see anything... " "No thanks, I'm just cooling my heals."

Five minutes later I've got this on my credit card - which means The Bride will know EXACTLY what I paid!

10-1 Heavy Barrel (Well it's missing the dash so it's a 101)
4 screw
Lazy &'s all over it
Matching grips - no box, etc.
Amazing DA/SA pull, tight
C503xxx
Some minor scratches and a couple little dings.

Local Sheriff was milling about as well. He looked it over and said, "If you hadn't bought it, I would have."

Traded in the day before. But they were already willing to drop the price. I had no choice.. $301.25 OTD I'd ask how did I do... But I already know

Cleaned it up. I need to work on my photo skills, I used to be better, just out of practice.

Hey Flint, That's Great !! Something about grabbing a 4 screw or a 5 screw, Congrats on your find. Enjoy !!

My first 4 screw was a Model 19 No Dash from 1959. I was pretty excited to grab it.

Very Very Nice. I appreciate the pictures with the loaded cylinder. Especially the mirror reflection of the cartridges on the frame.
$300 ??? Not sure why that sheriff didn't charge you with robbery and confiscate it. Ole Roy Huntington wouldn't have passed that up if he'd seen it first. Wink Wink.

Nice touch on the photos with the black velvet background to highlight that shiny nickel finish. Don't sell yourself short on your rusty skillsFirst time 4-Screw

To me, the 4 screw era (for K frames) edges out other eras of production to be the apex of gun making, at least for Smith revolvers. I only have three revolvers from that time frame, and none are pristine, but all are in good enough condition to see the level of quality they were doing back then.

What a wonderful revolver, from, as has been noted, one of the best eras of S&W excellence!! I concur with Muddy Creek, that Sheriff could have made a pinch right there!! That little gem could easily sell for twice that, especially in certain parts of the country.

I always try to pay cash when I can, to eliminate the dreaded "paper trail"!!! The next step is to pull it out of the safe about a week later, and say, "Well, I haven't had this one out for ages, I'd better check it to make sure it doesn't need cleaning!!"".

Best Regards, Les

If your intent was to return to the forum in a blaze of glory...you succeeded in grand style. (smile)

Well done and congratulations!

I'm reminded of what a kind forum this is, an actual community of quality folks. The fit and finish are superior, true craftsmanship for sure. Your kind words are appreciated and I must say it is tough taking pictures of bluing this good - without making it look like nickel - so a few more pictures coming, plus a closeup of the open loaded cylinder with some vintage S&W Wadcutters.

Great gun, a 10-1 is really hard to find. Wish I had it for my 4 screw collection.
