Default Pre 29 date of mfg.

I have a pre-29 4 inch, sn S153218 with wood display case. I have donated and am a bronze member, or higher, I don't remember. Can anyone tell me the year of this revolver? thanks

The book says...
1956 - 1957 S150000 - S175999
so I would guess 1956.

Presentation case should have blue/black leatherette exterior and not mahogany wood.

Default pre 29

It is wood, with blue interior. shipping box has the serial number on a sticker. Has another sticker that says "pre 29". I am thinking the case and box are later additions, especially if the pre 29 sticker came from the factory, not added by the previous owner. Gun is probably 98%. Has a slight turn line, but no evidence of it being fired, which is sad, because I like to at least shoot them once in while. How rare is the 4 inch 5 screw? What other barrel lengths did they make in the blued 5 screw?

While S&W revolvers didnt ship in numerical order my closest 4" Pre 29 is just below your Serial at S-150214 and shipped Feb 1957

...and just to prove the "no consistent shipping dates" point, my 4" pre 29 SN S168658 also shipped in Feb 1957... Here is a photo of it in the correct presentation case...

The grips on the above are aftermarket, but I have a set of perfect Cokes that are kept with the gun.

Here is a photo of a 4-screw pre-29 on top of what I believe is the appropriate case:

rcguns,

According to my info Your Revolver...Bearing Serial No. S153218...Shipped June 27,1957!! It shipped with a Blued Finish & a 4" Barrel!!

Regarding the Wood Presentation Case in which it now resides...I'll have to agree with what's already been noted...By yourself & others...It was added sometime later!! The Correct Case for Your Revolver would be a Smooth Exterior...(Not Pebblegrain)..Blue/Black Leatherette Case!! Hope this Info has been helpful!!
