My first revolver!
My first revolver and my first purchase with my new C&R. It should be here in a couple of days. Description said it dates to about 1953 and came from the estate of a New York City police officer (property number stamped on the back strap). I've been lurking on this forum for a few months doing some research and deciding what I wanted. I've learned a lot and hopefully did ok with this one. I'll post more pics when it arrives. Thanks for all of the great info here!

Welcome to the forum.
That's a nice 5 screw 1st revolver and with some history. Pre Model 10 with PC (Plain Cloths) stocks that have the rounded butt edges for better concealment. Early style speed action hammer or "fish hook" design.
Enjoy shooting that one!

That is as fine a starting revolver as you can find.
Enjoy it.

That number on the back strap is the cops badge number. They were sold to the officer and the officers had them stamped.

Interesting to know serger. I wonder if I could find out any information on the officer? I have a couple of cops in the family.

Welcome. You picked a good one for a starter. When I started on S&W revolvers again my first pickup was a 1951 pre Model 10 M&P that shipped to the Western Auto Supply Co. in Kansas City. I also purchased mine using a C&R. I expect it will not be your last S&W.

Nice score, you already have the right mindset by calling it your first revolver.

Well done! You've got a good one there and I guarantee you it won't be your last.
Both of these shipped in 1950.

It got here today! It's in better shape than I expected. It has some honest wear to it but no real loss to the blueing. Easily 90 percent. Everything seems to lock up very tight and the grips are in great shape. All numbers match. I think I did pretty good for 390 bucks!

This is the one that did me in! April 1947 It spoke to me........
When I bought this, about 8 years ago, I owned 6 S&W's. Now it is well over, well, never mind, but it's a lot!! And, I wouldn't change a thing!

Welcome aboard from Wyoming.
Nice pick. Congratulations. Postwar M&Ps are attracted to me (like mosquitoes). There is no repellent; go with it.
Slàinte,

I would change a lot ... mostly in the direction of buying more, especially the older ones.

Well cared for ... Look carefully at the side plate screws - no one has messed with your revolver.
Very nice indeed.

Now I just need to find time to shoot it. Maybe I can sneak out of work early and get to the range.

Welcome to the forums from the Wiregrass! Can't go wrong starting with a Model 10, the best selling revolver of all time!

I have an "s" prefix post war gun very similar to yours. Even the serrations into the half moon front sight (I believe this *was* a common gunsmith service to hotrod your revolver). Most accurate and best trigger revolver in my collection. You'll be pleased.

Someone else correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the front sight serrations on mine are from the factory. I think I read they started doing serations in 52. Mine is a 53 so that would make sense.

You are most likely correct. Browntown's ramp/serrations would be a post-factory modification of a half-moon on an S-prefix, but by the time of your gun, the ramp should be standard factory.

I have a feeling my new C&R is going to get expensive! This CZ82 came in the mail today. I couldn't help it, I've never seen one in this good of condition before. Still had grease on the feed ramp. I don't think it's ever been fired!
