Default S&W Box ID?

Bought a 22/32 HFT today, (transferred today) and it came in this box. Obviously it is not the correct box for the pistol. Trying to find out what it might be for. Looks perhaps 50's early 60's? Serial number looks odd, at least not one I can reference.

It could be a box used to ship back a revolver from the factory to the customer, after a repair, re-blue, etc. 70K7285 would be from 1980 or so production.

It is for an adjustable sight K frame. By the visible part of the label (a 6" barrel -4) it may have originally housed a model 14, 17, 19 or 48.

As the pistol I bought was from a retired CHP Officer's estate I'm guessing the box was from a model 19. What vintage is the box? Looks much older than the 80's.

That's the last style of two-piece box before they went to the one-piece folding box in the late 80's. That style was used starting in the late 60's.

It says "A Bangor Punta Company" on the top, so it has to be from 1965 or later, since that is the year the Wesson family sold the company to Bangor Punta.

In addition, all 70K numbers were issued in 1981, so if it was used for a Combat Magnum, it would have been for a Model 19-4. However, if the serial number on it relates to a gun that was returned to the service department and re-shipped, the actual age of the box could be greater than that serial number would indicate. As I noted above, it cannot be older than 1965.

According to SCSW, 4th Ed. - the Bangor Punta box was used between 1966 to 1985.

I was just curious, I know I bought a "New" L frame 586 in the late 70's and it came in the dark blue "double action" REVOLVER box. Thought this one was earlier. I have no need of it, but wanted to at least get it dated and possible matches.

I'm sure that's true. While BP acquired the company in 1965, there would probably have been an inventory of boxes on hand without the BP legend. It could easily have been the next year before the company started using the new boxes with the parent company name on them.
