Default Forcing cone strength

Good day gentlemen and ladies.
I have a question regarding forcing cones.
I saw an ad in the WTS firearms forum regarding a 2 inch Mod 10 with a cracked FC due to the owner shooting standard loads on the little snubby.
Is this somethingI should be aware of? I have an SV and 3 Victories ( 2 of them Navy marked) and I am now afraid to shoot standard 158 grain SWC cast rounds out of them for fear of cracked forcing cones.
Should I just shoot mouse farts in these old war horses or is that an isolated incident?
Thank you and more power.
Jim

If it's any indication, I don't recall hearing of many in all the years I've been on this forum. And I'm talking no more than (maybe) 3 or 4. I don't even remember the last time I read about it happening to anyone on here.

I wouldn't sweat it....

Not having ever experienced a cracked forcing cone, I cannot really say. But from what I have understood, forcing cone cracks are associated with firing high velocity light jacketed bullet loads, not standard velocity lead bullet loads.

Not unheard of back when the old HV 32WCF was around. Methinks some +P, +P+, or 38-44 ammo is in the equation.

And most of those were Model 19's that got a steady diet of hyper velocity 125 grain loads...

Of course, anyone who ever broke a gun was using "standard" velocity factory ammo.

Thanks for the reply y'all.
Cracked FC due to shooting semi jacketed/jacketed hi-vel bullets do make sense.
I'll shoot a few cast 158 grain 38 spls out of my Victories and keep you posted.

Any Model 10 can handle .38+P, hard to believe that happened with standard loads. Your guns are a bit older, you might want to limit the number of +P rounds but standard pressure 158 gr should be no problem at all, that's what they were built for.

I've seen several ex-LE M64's on GB lately with cracked forcing cones. I was wondering about this epidemic, myself. It makes one nervous.
