Finally got me a 1950's S&W! **UPDATED** ** Letter Received **
Old S&W's don't pop up very often here in Elizabeth Warren territory. (I know ... I know ... she's a MAJOR embarrassment ... but that's for a different thread ...)
When they do pop up, it's every man for himself. I managed to jump on this one within minutes of my LGS posting it on their web site. Called to reserved it. Circa 1951 K-38 Combat Masterpiece. As I was checking it over the owner came out to say "hi". (Very nice guy. I think I put his kid through college with all of my purchases over the years.) I guess one of his employees had accepted the gun as a consignment that morning. He took one look at the price and said, "That's too low ... I would have bought it myself. I am glad that you got it, though. Congratulations."
No box/tools/etc., just the gun. $575.
Now I need to find a 1910's S&W ...

Nice find! Since I was born in 1951, I think you got a vintage year.

Very good find and I am glad you were able to reserve it. Now all we need is a range report.

Nice get. Until you get your 1910's S&W you can stare at this one from 1914. Enjoy.

Nice Early(ish) Combat Masterpiece, There is a feature on your gun that makes me think its more likely a 1952 shipped gun.
If you post the serial we can give you an approximate ship date, the SCSW is usually close but sometimes way off.

Nice 1! I had one like it that was shipped June 1919. Was given to me by Dad a few years before he passed. My oldest son has it now. Bob

A beauty for sure! I currently have nothing from the 50's. Do have a 1960, 6", 28, no dash that I am quite fond of! Bob

Would you care to elaborate on the feature? (I have one and not sure of the year). Inquiring minds want to know.

Serial number is K1205xx.
Will know the exact ship date shortly ... factory letter should be arriving in about 10 days, but would appreciate approximations in the meantime. (Plus, it will be interesting to see how close y'all can get!)
BTW, what feature makes you think it's 1952? I am always eager to learn ... especially when it comes to old S&W's.

You've dug up a wonderful gun and I think you'll be surprised how well it shoots. I have the twin (K1200XX) and sure wouldn't take $575 for it!!!!!

My guess is your revolver shipped in December of 1951 unless it sat forgotten on the back shelf at the warehouse.
My K38 Combat Masterpiece, serial number K120905, shipped in December of 1951.
linde and I have it nailed!

Steal. I'm still looking for a 5-screw CM. Should have held onto my 15-3 at least till I found one. Duh.
