Default SW Letter info

Just wondering what it cost to have a gun lettered is? As I just purchased a Lend lease pre model 11 or at least I think it is, It has the Australian and British import stamps and a no prefix 999XXX serial number, My guess is manufactured frame just before plant closing in 1947 but with pre war stamped single line address, is referenced in 4th edition, made in USA on right frame, parkerized with lanyard half moon front sight, walnut grips, seem like some conflicting info as to what constitutes a model 10 and model 11? I may just be confused. thanks for any help in understanding. Craig

You will probably have more luck in the other forum, the one for Hand Ejectors from 1896-1961. I know it changed recently but I don't know the new details.

In short, you have a "pre-Victory" British Service Revolver from late Spring 1942. No model numbers yet; only after 1957 were these .38 S&W calibered M&P's named Model 11. The term "pre-Model 11" is not one anybody uses for wartime revolvers.

If it has the UNITED STATES PROPERTY stamp on the top, it will have shipped to Hartford Ordnance Depot for Lend-Lease shipment to Britain or elsewhere.

The letter is $75 and will tell you that, plus the exact ship date.
