Default K22 Questions

I have been looking for a decent K22 for awhile now, so far I have wound up with a Model 53 1st year 8 3/8" with the 22LR cylinder and a 22/32 HFT. I found two K22's on line from an LGS not to far away. Info is a bit sketchy, serial numbers are K612xx, and K599xx according to the man on the phone. . I believe that those would date to 1948. IF they are 5 digit numbers.. If six digits then 1964 and 1965. Both have target type stocks, neither has the "Diamond" One has what I call the speedloader cut, and the other the "football" Neither would be correct for 1948. Would the "football" cut be correct for a mid 60'2 K22? At $500 ea. I might go and look at them.

Geez I'd buy both for $1000

Football cut targets from 1955 through 1983 or so. So mid 1960s would be right in there. Diamonds went away around 1968.

Sounds like any way you cut it, they both have later stocks. Still, a mid 1960s Model 17-2 with incorrect S&W stocks for $500 (and in good shape) is a middlin' good deal. If they are 1940s guns it's a great deal.

Both are what I would call shooters, LGS rated one at 60% the other at 65%. Thinking it would be worth the 2 hour drive to verify. Can't really get both, CA limits you to one handgun per 30 day period.. From a dealer, Private Party transfers are not limited yet..

Does CA allow you to put one on "lay-a-way" when buying the other? Then pay half on the law-a-way and the rest when you pick it up in 30 days?

Haven't done that yet, I would guess it would depend on the LGS. If it is on their books then only one per month. Private party transfers as many as you want for now.
