Default Registered Magnum muzzle

I have a high condition Registered Magnum and from what I have seen on one is that the muzzle crown was in the white but mine is not. Were these in the white from the factory? Can't seem to find any info on the specifics. Thanks

Mine are not. That said, they were built to order. That order typically dealt with barrel length, sights, and sighting in preference. You'd think that something as often changed from standard as grips would have been a hot item for "customization". Nope! Pearl grips: 5 on nickel guns, 2 on blue. Ivory: 4 on blue. Stag: 1 on nickel, 2 on blue. Roper: Hundreds, right?! Nope! 6 (gun finish not specified). I'm tempted to comment on the demographics of the buyers (other than law enforcement), but that's pretty much pure speculation.

Your best source of information on YOUR gun starts with a letter. If you don't have one, get one. Next, get in touch with the S&W Historical Foundation, and ask them to search for information on your gun. I'm inclined to guarantee they'll have something. And I wouldn't be surprised to see an "in the white" muzzle (polished muzzle) request staring back at you from the pages you receive. Now---if you've already done all that, then it's quittin' time.

Thank you gents. I have documentation coming out of my ears but I didn't think it was factory but have seen a few so the custom ordering could be the answer if it's present. Appreciate it

None of mine are like that, except for one that has been cut... after it left the factory.

Polished muzzles were, if not common, then plentiful in earlier days--NM #3's and 1st/2nd Single Shots to name those with which I'm most familiar, but I don't know why. We recently had a discussion here on polished ejector rod noses which were as common as dirt on pre-war hand ejectors (yours included) and on some post-war models as well. Those served an easily understood, utilitarian purpose. Maybe the muzzles are just for looks.
