.32-20 find
Yesterday I was lucky enough to find a S&W revolver I have been trying to find for some years. It's a .32-20 Hand Ejector Model of 1905-4th Change, 6" barrel. The right side of the barrel is marked .32-20, not 32 WCF. SN is 132526. The gun is in very good condition, honest wear with great patina. Could someone please let me know the shipping date of my revolver?

The closest .32-20 M&P on my list is 1345xx which shipped in 5/27. Yours could easily have shipped later. Production of the .32-20 M&Ps stopped at about 144xxx in 1929-30, but shipments from inventory continued throughout the 1930s. The grips and extractor rod knob together indicate manufacture in 1927 or earlier.

This change was made in 1922. There were three different cartridge markings used on this model. From 1899 until sometime around 1914, it said 32 Winchester CTG. The 32 W.C.F. CTG stamp was used from 1914 until 1922, when it was replaced with 32-20 CTG.
The 1914 date is approximate because there are known revolvers that shipped earlier with the new designation on the barrel. But generally speaking, 1914 is a useful date for the change.
With respect to the extractor rod knob (mushroom vs. barrel shape), the 1927 cutoff is generally reliable on the .38 M&P. It is far from reliable on the .32-20. We have seen the older style knob on guns clear up into the 140xxx range. And some have the barrel shaped knob with numbers lower than that. I've always assumed that there were .32 caliber barrels in the bin that already had the double notch machined in them, so matching rods were set aside for them. True or not, I suppose we'll never know.

Just over 100 years ago. Cool.
What length barrel is on it? Fixed sights?

Nice revolver I love my 32/20 it isn't near as nice as yours as it was owned and carried by a trapper and it was a working gun but it is sure accurate and easy shooting although rough on the outside. Thanks for posting if you decide to run a few rounds through it post a range report with more pictures for us to drool over ah I mean look at .

Another very good example of the irregular shipping pattern. Serial #122220 left the factory a full year before yours!
