Model 1950 44 Target
Just acquired this beautiful Model 1950 Target in .44 Special. It also came with its original box (serial number in pencil on the bottom) and cleaning gear…..screwdriver, brush and mop and a wooden cleaning rod. And, when I popped off the grips, the right panel has the serial number stamped inside it. According to the Standard Catalog, the serial number (S144XXX) comes back to 1955. The previous owner got it from her father and she said he put less than 100 rounds through it. Just had to share a terrific find with fellow S&W fanatics.

FYI, screwdriver = SAT =Sight Adjustment Tool.

Great example of a 1950 44 Target revolver, and it is a plus to have the original box, etc. I have one in the same serial number range that shipped in November 1955.

Great catch! I'll bet a little Ren Wax would make that puppy shine, too. I have S127xxx which didn't ship until Feb. '58.

Great find!! I have never run into the .44 Special 1950 Target before, but some years back I stumbled into a 1950 in .45 ACP, that looks just like yours, but no box. Congratulations.

I picked up a 1950 target made in late 55. Its hands down my favorite gun. Love the .44 spcl. Before it i got a lipseys stainless flat top bisley. Lovecshooting them both.

I was fortunate to acquire a 6 1/2" 24-3 a few months ago. Likely as close as I'll get to your gun, but not bad, either. I already had a 4" 24-3, which in original 1955 guise are nigh unobtainable unless you have VERY deep pockets plus patience for the search. Very fine sidearms, whether the original or later versions. .44 Special has become my favorite sixgun clambering. I'm up to 4 of them now.

I’m pretty much an I-, J-, K frame kinda guy, but the one “big gun” that really strikes my fancy is the Model 1950 in 44 Spl. The icons of revolver-dom like Elmer and Skeeter had a lasting effect on me that way. Great find!
