Two 99+% Condition Non-Registered Magnums hanging out together?

My friend Rich Bower stopped by the other day to show me his latest indiscretion - an absolutely beautiful and nearly perfect 3.5" NRM recently obtained from wordsmith. So we decided to take the opportunity to quickly photograph our two NRM's together. Both guns are 100% original from end to end. Mine is the 6.5" serial# 6122X on top in the photos below. It is a fairly common configuration with Call Gold Bead front sight and is complete with its original numbered to the gun box including SAT, Caution Sheet, Helpful Hints Brochure, and green Material and Workmanship Guarantee sheet (not shown). Rich's NRM serial# 6077X, on the other hand, comes with no box or extras; of course who needs a box and extras when you have a 3.5" barrel, King Luminous Red Post front sight, King W/O rear sight, and Humpback hammer!!!? Anyway, we thought you might like to see them together so thanks for letting us share.

Really wish you guys would stop posting all these RM's!!! Makes me want to run right out and buy one or two, my gun funds are low because of a house build going on.

In all seriousness outstanding examples of pre war magnums, thanks for sharing!!!!!!

I would love to see a photo or two of the complete package, if you get a chance.

Those two guns are outstanding!! Don't think they could be improved. The only thing that would make them better is if they were mine!!

Thanks for sharing!

Richard,

Here are a couple of pics of the box with contents. I oiled the gun after taking the pictures yesterday so you will see some glare on the gun - being from the old school I am just not totally comfortable with Ren Wax on a long term basis. The picture of the white tab on the bottom of the box showing barrel length and serial# is the way I think most legitimate examples original to the gun would appear after 77 years - just barely readable. Thanks to everyone for all the "likes" and kind comments - I'm sure it will make Rich Bowers's day as it has mine! BTW, I have first rights on the 3.5" and I WILL find a way to acquire that gem when it becomes available! How Often Do You See ................

Gentlemen, you are very fortunate to have such a nice pair of NRM revolvers. Very rare to find these in such nice condition as most have seen heavy use. Congratulations. Nice to see them and thanks for sharing.

Both are georgous revolvers! That short barreled beauty looks like it means "business"! How do you stand not shooting them!? aaagh! That would drive me nuts! Hence, I will never be a collector, never mind the $$ involved. I would end up shooting them, I know me. Thanks for sharing them! And to answer the question, Never!

Wow! A "fairly common configuration" for a NRM??? I would like to find one of those run-of-the-mill common versions.

First off, 2 very fine revolvers there guys!!!

Second, that 3.5" magnum might be one of only two guns I would consider replacing my EDC snub nose Python with. The other gun would be a vintage 3" Korth.

Ya'll collectors would hate me, because I would carry and use that short barreled magnum. I just don't get my money's worth out of guns unless I utilize them as the tools they were made to be.

Well, much sooner than I was expecting, the two NRM’s pictured at the beginning of this thread are together again - but this time they are both mine! How Often Do You See ................. After some persistent prodding on my part Rich Bower decided to sell me the 3.5”er that I know he bought just to make me jealous! Anyway, don’t feel too bad for him; he got a very nice RM plus some cash from me for the 3.5”er. I wasn’t sleeping while I was waiting for Rich to come around either. Thanks to some other very fine folks on this Forum I was able to obtain a small pre-war blue picture box and most of the period correct contents to go with my 3.5” NRM. The total package is pictured below.

... Now, that right there is enough to make a grown man cry... you know, that smiley, manly cry that just happens when you see that some things in the world are just right - even if there are tons of crazy/bad things happening all around you... like when one of your grandson's first words is "bampa" (one year-old for "grandpa").

Why?? Renaissance Wax is recommended for long term storage by the museum curator that cares for the S&W collection. Oil dries out eventually and attracts dust. Dust left behind holds moisture and moisture causes rust. You put wax on your metal car to protect the finish so why not on your metal guns?

You must take into consideration however that all wax is not the same. The formula for Renaissance Wax is specifically geared for long term metal storage and as I said is recommended by museum curators. If it's good enough for them, it's good enough for me.
