The guy is wearing standard issue jungle fatigues and the boots appear to be jungle boots, heavily dusted with the typical non-monsoon period, ankle deep dust. I wore these same items while over there. The tents in the background were not unusual in VN, although I always thought some of them were left over from Korea!
I also think that is a Chiefs Special in his hand. The tree trunk behind it confuses the image, I believe.
