Default 27-0

Scored a 27-0 four screw with 3 1/2" barrel today for a decent price. Pics later with a little help.

So that one would be pre-1960 if I'm reading the book correctly. Any more details (condition especially). Looking forward to the pictures.

The 27 was dirty when I got it but when cleaned up it looks almost new. Barely a turn line. Unfortunately no box or docs. It was wearing newer football targets when I first looked at it. I told the guy I might be interested if it had the original grips. He pulled them (diamond magnas numbered to the gun) from under the table and I got the gun and both sets of grips. Still working on pics, prolly a day or two.

That is a beauty for sure. Great score on that, with the correct grips and all.

Very nice, congrats and thanks for sharing.
I ran across a similar 3.5" ND #200061 with original box a couple months ago. It shipped Jan, 1961.

Jack:

Can you post a photo of it in/with the box?

Charlie:

Congrats on running down that beauty!

Thanks,

I am curious why he had the original grips out of sight. Maybe to help tempt you if you seemed hesitant?

He was going to sell the original grips separately and thought they were ugly and the newer targets looked better. I wound up with both sets. I needed another set of targets anyway.

Thumbs up SWEET

You're not helping my current mdl 27 craving one little bit.
You should write a how to book & help some of the MUST BUY NEW folks to take the plunge.

Find and negotiate. It helps when they don't know what they have or try and do any research. If the seller had asked a few questions on this forum I probably would not have been able to afford it.

Richard,
I'm not too swooft taking/posting pics but will attempt to. It may be a day or 2, hopefully this week as have some family medical issues going on right now. I finally replaced my stone age flip phone last week with IPhone 6S so I need to learn to use it anyway and what better way to do that than taking/posting gun porn?

Every time I convince myself I want a pre-27 5" one of you posts a 3½" and makes me question my decision. Dang, that's nice.

Have you installed the Tapatalk app? Makes taking and posting pictures easy.

I'm wondering why the serial number is off to one side on the butt grip. I'm guessing to leave room for a lanyard ring. Anybody know for sure?

That's a great find in a 27 no dash. You may recall that S&W actually made a 627-0 and what a fine hand gun they are as well.

The serial number on post-war N-frames was roll marked on the right side of the bottom of the grip frame until around 1964 when it was moved to the center. The S was roll marked on the left side of the frame until around 1959 or 1960 when it was moved next to the serial number.

Why, is anybody's guess.
