Default S&W Tripple lock - cal 455 - I need more info

Hi - I bought this one a couple of years ago in the original case with extra's - wondering if anyone could help me out with a realistic valuation - Blue Book 2015, estimates it at about $3000. I would like to sell it to preferably a local collector (South Africa) - to much drama with paperwork to exportIMG_7902.JPG

Welcome to the forum.

I would think that you are in the right neighborhood perhaps a bit high. Hard to tell from the photos as they are small and a little blurry on my monitor as to the exact condition. Also, prices here in the US may be different than where you are so only you know how that affects a published price.

Also, what are gun transfer and ownership rules like where you are. In some countries, even having a permit sounds like a real hassle. If that is true in your area then the buyer pool may be somewhat limited and value could either rise or fall based on that alone. Also to consider is are there folks out there with $2000 to $3000 willing to spend it on a firearm. Here in the states it does not seem to be an issue but it might in other areas.

Unfortunately only you know some of those answers. Best bet would be to throw it out there and see what offers you get. If it doesn't get any bites after a month or so then you are probably asking too much.

Nice gun !! Ironically I am in the Uk and the two .455 revolvers and one .38S&W revolvers I own are all ex South Africa issue !

Your gun actually has a good collector value in the UK and shipping it here wouldn't from what I understand be that much of a hassle - its of a caliber and age that certain collectors can own and keep at home despite the handgun ban here.

In the UK it would fetch around £1000 - £1500 in that condition just for the gun alone. If there was any provenance with it, e.g. military owners history etc that could add to the value. I own a .38 Pre Victory model owned by a WW2 spitfire pilot from SAAF and the photos of him by his aircraft with it in a holster really add to its collector value.

Does the box have a trade label affixed to the inside of the lid?

Maj. Harry Hoffa, if I recall his name? Died not too long ago, at 94?

Thanks for the photos you posted here awhile back.
