Default S&W Model 1899 Identification

I recently purchased this S&W model 1899 at a gun show. From what I have figured out, it is one of the Navy issue ones. But ist seems to me that at some time in it's life someone decided to nickel plate it. Any other help any of you can give me sure would be appreciated. I'm new to this Forum and have enjoyed it very much so far. Thanks!

It's a Navy contract specimen (5001-6000). Unfortunate it has been plated. See: Past auction item 1899 US Navy .38

I got this one for $500 at the gun show. I also just happened onto a nice set of original Navy grips to put on it. Now I have to decide how to proceed from here. Of course that will depend on the cost to get it back to the way it should be and who would be the person to do it.

Fords is a Company in Florida that does very high quality refinishing work.I've heard the quality has taken a slight dip since the old Man left though so be sure to research their recent work first.

About a month after purchasing the 1899 Navy in June 2017, I happened upon this 1899 Army for $500.

One last picture of the 1899 Navy. As you can see, they also eliminated all the Navy information from the butt of the pistol. Not sure how I can get that information again such as the Navy number of it, let alone if anyone can reproduce those stamps on it again.

The cost would likely outstrip the value and it will never be original again. I would leave it as is. Your latest 1899 model more than makes up for it. I would have had some explaining to do when i got home if I saw that one for $500 locally.
