Never seen this bomb emblem. It is about 1/4" and located just above the cylinder release on frame. No U.S. Property Stamp, diamond wood grips, 5" barrel. s/n range 59xxx

I think the poster is referring to the Springfield Armory stamp, seen on some Model 1917s and other military arms inspected there. A photo will tell. Ed.

We still haven't determined just which model of military arm you have. It will make a difference as to value. (As I said before, probably a M1917, but it needs to be confirmed.)

Flaming Bomb ordnance mark + .45 ACP strongly suggests that it is a Model of 1917. Don't forget that Colt made an M1917 also, so be sure that it is a S&W. I'm not trying to be a smart boy, but you would be amazed how many times people are looking at a Colt and don't realize it!
Also, it is just possible that it is a S&W / Colt that was made under contract for the Brits, before the U.S. joined the war. Those were chambered for .455 British and had a 6.5" barrel, but were often rechambered in .45 ACP when sold on the American surplus market. The barrel could have been shortened as well, or someone simply may be measuring it incorrectly. The barrel should be 5.5" measured from the muzzle to the front of the cylinder. {Edited to add: Unlikely it would be a British Contract Revolver since it has the US ordnance mark.}
If it is a S&W M1917, it should have the US Property, etc., markings, but they could have been removed. Also the diamond grips would be a later replacement (by a civilian). They could be worth quite a bit just by themselves.
Assuming it is a S&W M1917, it was manufactured in May of 1918. If some markings have been removed, that hurts its collector value. Ditto if it has been refinished. The grips (or stocks as S&W calls them) may be a wash. You may be able to sell the ones that are on it for enough to buy "correct" stocks. Or just leave them, your choice. My guesstimate without seeing pictures is that it should be worth at least $500 if in good working order. Maybe a hundred or so more depending on the exact condition and the stand-alone value of the stocks.

When looking under the barrel is there any remnant of the US Property stamping using a glass?

I too own one in the 59,XXX range and it has all of the markings. If it's a Colt, it will have an unshrouded extractor rod.
