Hello, I am trying to date a Smith and Wesson 5 screw revolver. It is nickel has a trigger guard screw, four sideplate screws, 5 inch barrel, no rear sight, simple notch like my M&P and the serial number is V160485. He asked me because I am a member here for a while and he isn't. Thank you. It is a .38 Smith and Wesson Ctg stamped on the barrel.

It's a Victory British Service Revolver (BSR). The plating is definitely not original. V160485 suggests it shipped in late 1942. One thing to check for is whether the chambers have been lengthened to use .38 Special cartridges.
