Serial number indicates first year of production, 1950.

Yes, pictures would help a lot. Occasionally those "non-original" target stocks turn out to be "cokes" which would be a nice plus. Hard to estimate value without pictures but there are very few pre-27 3.5 inch guns for which I wouldn't be willing to pay in the $800-$1000 range. Even with the mentioned finish wear (no pitting), if it is otherwise original and in mechanically good condition it should be in that range. Without the wear and with stocks numbered to the gun the value is likely in the $1500 and up range. Good luck, would really like to see pictures.

Smith resumed production of the .357 Magnum in 1950 with the new short action at about serial number S75,000. It seems that there are very few found, if any, below S75500. You have an early post war production gun. It also seems, from my observation, that a good many are 3 1/2 inch barrels. Somewhere here there is a list of early post war production Smiths. I'm more of a shooter than a collector so I would not be able to give a value, but these seem to go for a premium, and I would think you would be able to get $1500 for it if it is an as good a condition as you state.
