K22
I was looking at some local auctions and came across one that has 190 firearms for sale next Sat. One of them is a what appears to be a k22. It has a gold box and is in 6in, here's the rub they list the ser# as R1378. I'm thinking some one taking the photo mistook the K for R. I can't get a picture because the site won't let me get a grab. If the ser# is K1378 what would be the year? I haven't decided to go to the action yet because I have no idea what order they will sell in and waiting around for just the one could take the better part of a day.

Does it have a one line address and large barrel style ejector rod tip where the barrel is undercut ?

It is also possible the SN is actually an assembly number.

1947. If the box is numbered to the gun and has all the paperwork and original sight adjustment tool, you may have hit the lottery for a K22 if you can get it for under $1,500. If it is truly mint, it may be worth $2,000. Big Larry

If it is a K it would be a very early 1947. Take lots of money and don't let it get away,
This one shipped in 11/47 and the s/n is K872x.
Original stocks and box.

Sorry it took me awhile to get back to this a truck came down my street yesterday and ripped out my phone and internet lines, didn't get it fixed until this morning.
There are some details on the auction site that I just can't get. The k22 looks very much like the one pictured above. From what I can see it has minor muzzle wear and a little wear on the grips. There is only one picture of the box sitting above the
the revolver face up, gold box Smith and Wesson k-22 masterpiece. The box looks to be in good condition can't tell if its original to the gun.

I am a retired truck driver and I cannot tell you how many lines I took out in my 25 year career. It is the responsibility of the cable company and the power company to keep those lines higher than 13'.6". That said, I hope you get that revolver. With that low number, it is a collectors prize. I have # 4339 in it's numbered box with all the tools and they would have to pry my cold dead hands from it to get it. It is one of my favorites. Good luck to you. Big Larry

I'm assuming you are "Big Larry" from rimfire central? If you lived closer you would certainly want to be at this auction. I didn't make a full count but I think there're at least a dozen older Winchester .22s listed, no 52s that I saw. I'll most probably show up considering it's indoors with seating and has AC, if I have to wait for the K-22 to sell at least I'll be comfortable.

I'll just have to wait until I see it in person, there is only one shot of the revolver it's pretty small and it's the left side so I can't see the address.

Can you tell about the ejector rod tip and if the barrel is undercut from the picture? that is really the key.
Target guys K 22 is early enough it would have a one line address also.

Formerly from the Rimfire Forum. Got chased off by an idiot and they did nothing about it.
I don't do live auctions. Actually after buying a very expensive M1873 in 22 short, I am cash poor. Thanks, Big Larry

I noticed I hadn't seen you there for awhile but didn't know the reasons. I normally don't like live auctions either, most of the time guns sell for way more then they are worth. I'm not about to get into a bidding war when I know the value of a firearm.

Well it's a good thing the auction was only 10 miles away. It was quick walk in look at the K-22 walk to the desk tell them they has incorrectly listed the Ser# and a walk out. The Ser# was a 6 digit. They did thank me and said they needed to fix it before the auction started.

Kind of burst your balloon didn't it Andy. I found my # 4339 at a Big Reno show 8-12-2010. At the time, I had no idea what a LERK was, but I bought it as a low number. Turns out the revolver was shipped on my 5th birthday, 9-23-1947. 98%, I paid a whopping $825 for it. Sometimes you are a big winner. It is a safe queen and I have never fired it. Good luck finding one. One of the best S&W's ever made. Big Larry

Nice K-22 Larry. Yeah I was a little disappointed, I knew when I walked up it was incorrect I could see that it didn't have the balloon head ejector rod that a low number would have had. It wasn't a bad looking gun but it wasn't a safe queen either. The ser# dated it to 52-53. Not worth the effort of sitting there for however long it would take to come up for auction..

And the one pictured above has the later knurled extractor rod tip, without the barrel cutout. The one liners went up to about SN K30xxx. The knurled rod tip began a little under SN K5000 (at least some by K46xx). But as usual there is a transition period while old parts in inventory are used up.
