1917 barrel
Looking for some help in a price for a S&W 45 barrel. Left side has S&W 45 on it right side has I.N.A. Stamp. It came off a 1917 S&W frame. Anyone know what it's worth ? Thanks

Are you buying or selling? Either way, take a look at Gun Parts & Firearm Accessories | Numrich Gun Parts. They have a couple listed there. With the INA stamp, it's probably off a Brazilian.

Value & Price depend on condition. Plus, there's not a lot of people can use or are looking for these, unless they are in new condition. The fact that it is off the gun and from a Brazilian is a warning sign that it may have problems and that's why it was removed. How's the bore ? How's the finish ? Ed.

I got one of those unfired a couple of years ago off GB for $75.00. Had it chopped and put on an old .455 HE MKII for a belly gun. As I understand it, these were home grown replacement barrels for Brazilian Model 37/17s.
Very accurate at at SD ranges.

Bore and finish are good. I took it off the 1917 and replaced it with a smith & Wesson barrel. So don't think there was a problem. I just wanted the S&W from the States.

I don't understand your thinking since the Brazilian guns were made in USA and exported to Brazil. Then, imported as surplus and sold.

There weren't any Brazilian made barrels. They were all produced in the United States.

I thought there was a thread on the forum a number of years ago that discussed these INA barrels and it was determined that they were indeed made in Brazil.
Found it:
S&W 1917

Well, fan me with a brick! My apologies, tinstar78. I must have missed that one a few years back.

The INA barrels have a different profile on the bottom. It is round and leaves a gap between the barrel and the ejector rod where the S&W barrels have a flat surface following the profile of the mushroom shaped ejector rod.

The discussion wandered pretty far afield of the original question.
Last time I saw one of these for sale, the guy was asking $100, if I recall correctly. I don't know what it sold for, or even if it sold. An I.N.A. barrel should be a good, functional replacement barrel for someone who needs one. But it probably would not sell for as much as a barrel made by S&W. Maybe someone here could suggest a reasonable price for one in the condition described.
You could list it in the Accessories For Sale Forum of this website once you determine an asking price. Remember, you can always come down if it doesn't sell:

Anyone else have any thoughts on this?

I used to buy the Brazilian barrels all the time when I could not find a U.S. made barrel. Still have one Brazilian 1917 with the Brazil barrel, and it is marked on the left side: " FABRICA DE ITAJUBA
Rv.45, M917"
That is correct, it does not say "1917" but "917". All the ones I have had have been accurate shooters, although the look a bit strange. The last US S&W barrel I found "...on the loose.." with the U.S. property marking under the barrel cost me $100 in new condition.
