S&W .38 Special ID Help
No luck figuring it out on my own boys. Please help. Trying to find the year, if there is anything special about the revolver, and a value on the gun. Serial K 113467. Also with the cylinder dropped there are three lines of numbers on the frame:
4
35388
8

Welcome to the forums from the Wiregrass! That's a pre-Model 15 Combat Masterpiece from 1951.

A very nice .38 Combat Masterpiece, with what appear to be original stocks and superbly preserved finish. Wow!
I agree it came out in 1951.
That one could live in my safe anytime!!!

Yep, an early-50s Combat Masterpiece. A very fine, do-it-all revolver for field, service or home defense use. If the finish is original and the stocks number up, it's about a $400-$500 piece (around here, anyway). Congratulations !

Serial K 113467
Other Combat Masterpiece (CM) revolvers on my list having nearby serial numbers shipped in August and September 1951. It is definitely in the SN range of those manufactured in 1951. It appears correct, with the proper grips used at that time. The CMs are essentially the service revolver version of the K-38 Masterpiece revolver designed for target shooters, the principal difference being the barrel length. The Masterpiece standard was a 6" barrel, while the CM has a 4" barrel. Later, the CM became the Model 15. At one time, prior to the M9 Beretta, the CM was the standard sidearm of the U. S. Air Force. If you needed to sell it, it should easily sell for around $500 in a private sale.

Very nice Pre Model 15. Same age as me (66) but in much better condition. Might want to take grips off and see if number matches serial number on butt frame. Will sell for $500 - $600 around Alabama. Welcome to the forum.
