Catalin Stock Question.....
Assuming VG condition, what is the value of a set of K frame Catalin (sp.?) stocks?
Best,
Charles

I'd think $35 - $50 depending on how bad you want them. Calalin grips for Colt SAAs bring $100 on a regular basis.

No. He is talking about polymer synthetic stocks that were popular in the '40s and '50s, especially for Colt's revolvers. John Wayne carried a Single Action Army fitted with Catalin stocks in many of his movies. They are often yellowish in color. You can see several good views of Wayne's in the movie, The Cowboys.

Catalin is a phenolic thermoset plastic, and one of the earliest plastics in wide use. Not used much today, but in the 1930s-40s, it was very popular for many products ranging from silverware and brush handles and jewelry to telephones and radio and clock cases. It is seen in a wide array of colors, which is why it was so popular. There are many Catalin collectors. Original 1930s Catalin jewelry (bracelets, necklaces, etc.) is especially highly prized by jewelry collectors.
