Just acquired this nickel HE Model 1905 4th change. The finish is remarkable for it's age. At serial number 119xxx I place the manufacture at about 1929. I was amazed at how the blue book places the value over $1K. I estimate the finish between 80% and 90%. Action is perfect. Serial number under grips is older than this gun.

Any thoughts about .32-20 WCF? I was amazed that there was a .32-20 family of hand ejectors similar to the .32 and .38 special calibers. Model 1899, 1902 and 1905 along with various changes.

I like the longer barrel. I had a 5 inch blue that I put a "Wonder Sight" on and it was a shooter. Congratulations.

The 32/20 is an excellent round . It was initially developed as a rifle round and manufacturers started building revolvers for it . I have ac6 inch beater HE no where as nice as yours but it is a very accurate shooter.actually I have found the bottleneck cartridges are easier to load into a revolver than the straight walled ones .i reload but you have to be verry careful with the 32/20 I try to buy Winchester or Remington as the brass holds up well,but I'm sure the cowboy action stuff by well known makers is good also. I actually carry mine in a flap holster on occasion if I'm feeling nostalgic as far as power goes you are launching a 100 grain or so projectile at 900 fps approximately with the Winchester or Remington a little slower with cowboy action loadsmaybe ,so it will do the job inside your range limitations .Would it be my first choice to defend my life probabaly not but I wouldn't feel under gunned with it either it is a good all purpose woods round and is quiet capable in an accurate shooters hands it is also fairly mild shooting cartridge ( low recoil and noise) so accurracy isn't hard to obtain .Plus you might get truly lucky and find yourself a good rifle in the same caliber .Just my 2 cents if you want to have some fun walk into a big box sporting goods store and ask especially a young new guy for a box of 32/20 and watch em look ,you will get everything from 32 auto to 32 win special lol I love messing with them ,yes I'm a fan of the 32wcf aka 32/20 my 10 year old grandson loves it to its the first centerfire handgun round he ever shot.you have a very nice looking firearm there congrats ,I'm not sure I would carry that one it is so pretty but I would definitely shoot it oh yes I would .

I bought a box of .32-20 and fired them at the range. It is a very good target round. I am a fan of the .32 HR magnum as well. I would like to get my hands on a model 16-4. I met a guy who had one on the range and was impressed how it handled the rounds.

I bought my first 32-20 by mistake..(a 1905 S&W HE)thinking it was a 32 S&W but once acquired,has become one of my favorite shooters. The cartridge is not that difficult to obtain and although somewhat more expensive (unless you reload) it is very snappy and accurate. It's kind of a forgotten, but well revered by owners, round. I plan on buying a lever gun in 32.20 as soon as the right one comes across my path.

If you think the .32-20 round has been forgotten, go price a really nice Colt SAA in .32-20. Great cartridge and the HE is a great platform for it. I occasionally carry my 4" when feeling nostalgic.

Many K and N Frames

After reading a story written by Skeeter Skelton back in the 1970s, I went looking for a .32-20. Bought a 5" square butt from the 1900s. I later round butted it. Since then, I have owned about a dozen .32-20 revolvers and rifles. I have had several S&Ws, Colt Police Positive Specials and a Official Police, a Uberti SAA and a Cimmaron Model P Jr (which has an extra cylinder in .32 H&R Magnum), a Winchester M92, a Marlin 1894CL and a Martini Cadet conversion. All have shot well.

On occasion, I even carried my first S&W on duty as a deputy sheriff.

It's a fine round.

Your stocks are probably 20 years newer than the gun. The Magna stocks showed up in the late 1930s, while you state your 32-20 is from the late 1920s. The reason why the serial numbers on the right stock has a lower number is that the early line of Masterpiece revolvers started at K101, but the stamping of the stocks left off the "K". Those stocks look like they belong on an early Masterpiece revolver.

1920s stocks are walnut diamond service variety with the round top and convex wood in the round, no medallions.

Forgot to add that your revolver should have shipped closer to 1923, not 1929.

I list these two .32-20 M&Ps (that's what S&W called your gun in 1923) nearby to your SN 119xxx. 1176xx shipped in 1/24 and 1201xx shipped in 2/24. That would make production of yours in 1923 likely. The K-frame was the only revolver made by S&W which was chambered in .32-20. Colt made more - The SAA, Bisley, Army Special, Police Positive Special, and Official Police. S&W ceased .32-20 production in 1929-30, but they were sold from inventory until WWII. $1K for a value is somewhat optimistic unless it is in like-new completely original condition (including grips) and with the original box. Most don't place much faith in Blue Book value estimates.

Your Magna stocks are from the 1946-1953 period.
