It's a Terrier. Why did you question this? However if it is not marked Mod. 32 in the yoke cut it isn't a Model 32. I expect it is a fairly late "pre-model" gun.

Welcome! Jim (Hondo44) is the local expert on these, but it is a .38 Terrier, probably from between 1955 and 1957 if it is not stamped MOD 32 on the frame under the barrel with the cylinder out. I believe it is an "Improved I frame" but that is what Jim will tell you . Hope this is helpful.

Yes. The Terrier was built on the I frame until c. 1961. At that time, it was re-designated the Model 32-1. From c. 1958 until 1960-61, it was the Model 32.

The -1 indicates the adoption of the J size frame.

You do indeed have a Model of 1953 .38 Terrier 3 screw, from early 1956, which makes it a NEW I frame (larger trigger guard and 1/8" longer grip frame) than the Improved I frame (improved with a coil hammer spring).

Nick named a Pre Model 32 because it's identical with a Mod 32 which was also still built on the New I frame.

Value: these are very popular although the slightly smaller Improved I frame and earlier Transitional I frame are a bit more popular. $600 in really nice condition with original grips is a reasonable average cost, more with the bx etc.
Check the backside of the right grip for a stamped serial # that should match the gun #.

Much more details (maybe more than you want to know) here:

"New" and "Improved"...sounds like a catchy ad slogan . Thanks Jim!

I STAY confused about "improved" vs "new" vs "transitional." I like plain old original but STILL don't always know what I'm looking for/at! Regardless, cousin Toadfrog, it looks like you got a real nice one... congratulations.

Your distant relative,
Green Frog
