Default Prewar I Frame Grips

Below Several I Frame Smiths. 38 S&W, SN 338xx, pix 1; 32-20 SN 403xx, pix 2 & 32 W.C.F. 1178xx, pix 3. My belief only pix 3 is incorrect with much later grips.
Request expert comment.
With thanks,
iskra

iskra:

(Iskra, isn't that the Russian word ********скра.... Just remembered..."spark", they named a newspaper Iskra.)

I've been looking at a screen now for a lot of hours, so maybe I'm just burned out, but I have a couple of questions. I thought that the 32-20 was chambered in the medium frame that we now call the K frame, and second, I thought that the .32 W.C.F. Was the same as the 32-20, and therefore that of those three guns, only the .38 S&W would be an I frame.

By the way... Those are three beautiful revolvers.

P.S. Perhaps Jim...AKA Hondo44 will be along soon. I am always amazed at his knowledge about S&W, but particularly the I frames.

Best Regards, Les

The above members are correct, and only the 38 S&W Regulation Police Model is an I frame. The round-to-square stocks are correct vintage for the gun made between 1924 and 1929. If they're original to the gun there's a matching penciled serial # on the back of the right side stock.

And it's a real screamer in great condition!

Thanks for correcting my elementary understanding of these models. An "N" frame addict, my knowledge falls off quickly concerning junior models which, as many guns, 'just called out to me along the way'.

Les, indeed 'iskra' - Russian for "spark". Circumstantially only, commonly associated with revolutionary newspaper of Trotsky, I believe; more recently, wider. (Из ********скры воз********ор********тс******** ****************ам********. - From the spark, a fire to flare; or some such.)

In my context, working in the nineties (short era of détente) with the Russian and Ukrainian police under US State Dept auspices. Sharing backgrounds with a colleague and close friend, ironically, our early military careers paralleling... on opposite sides of the Iron Curtain! Both then radio intercept analysts. Dubbing him "Sparky" and he to me, "Iskra".

Thanks again!!!
iskra/John
