Default Nickel 32 Hand Ejector

I purchased this 32 at the gun show yesterday. Serial number is 3773XX, from research here, I suspect 1923 ship date. General appearance, timing and lock up are good. All numbers match including faint pencil marking on right grip.

It was a little disappointing when there was what seemed to be some sort of congealed residue on the frame under the grips. Cleaning with CLP didn't do much, so I tried some Mother's Mag Polish and it did remove quite a bit of the orange-black material.

As you can see, there is some flaking visible and this is apparently the source of the corrosion. Beyond keeping this area well lubricated, is there anything that can be done to arrest the flaking and prevent it from spreading?

The last photo shows another recent acquisition. A slightly younger cousin.

Wax, there seems to be some consensus that waxing guns is best to prevent rust, leaving the gun soaked in oil also works.

Welcome to the Forum.

Nice looking .32. I have one like that, a 3 1/4" nickel, but mine has the hard rubber grips. They are good shooters.

3773XX
3791xx shipped in 10/23, so your suspicion is probably correct.

Two nice 32s. The nickel is the original factory plating, and original stocks, what more can any ask.

I agree with the vintage. And the use of wax. Last thing you want is oil soaking into those nice wood stocks.

The blue ".32 Hand Ejector" is a jewel as well. An Improved I frame 1st version with round sight unless it has a main spring tension screw in the fore grip like the nickel gun; from early 1950s, pre 1953.

Thanks for the comments. I had not considered the negative ramifications of the oil soaking in the wood.

Hondo, the blue 2" gun does have the coil main spring. The s/n is 574XXX. It has the two line stamping on the left side of the barrel. I find that a cool feature, have a 2" M&P from the same time frame that also has the two lines.

Off to get some wax.
