K 22 outdoorsman 6" 663687
A mans got to know his limitations.
A couple of mine would be finances and eyesight.
Therefore this outdoorsman fills the bill nicely for me.
This one was Shipped in August of 1937 and I did my best to free it from jail on it's 80th birthday month.
Came with some 20's service stocks on it.
I had a set I thought would look and function better.

How about # 662400, shipped 6-11-1937. Have numbered box and no tools. 100% matching in 99% condition. Maybe unfired. Big Larry

Is that a late-model rear sight? Prolly a lot better for the eyesight, I imagine. I'm guessing it's been refinished? Still, I love the colors on the hammer & trigger.

It is a later model rear sight and will definitely help me with shooting it.....I don't think it has been refinished but could be wrong on that.
The pins look right to me.

Beautiful revolvers, Paul, love the grips on yours. I have a 1948 3rd Model K22 and wouldn't give it up for the world. Fun to shoot and really accurate.

It looks to be a masterpiece and not an outdoorsman, so you scored mightily. Love the Ropers!

I'm curious, what about it clues you to a possible refinish?

Well I guess it could be a prototype they tried early..
I assume its long action though.
Only one way to find out. Look for the number under the rear sight base.
LOL
I 'm not brave enough yet to go trying that stuff.
By the way Paul. Very nice. I new you needed one of these to round out your K22s
Ropers are icing on the cake.

Two ways I think .....it's not smooth.
If it was I'd be taking it off.

There's no doubt that a more modern rear sight has been grafted onto a pre-war K22 first model and (probably) a higher front sight blade added. Sort of messes up the collectible value but might make it a better shooter.

With my eyes I can guarantee it will be a better shooter.
I like sail guns and the long action.
It is "perfect" for me.

Mainly the fact that it's been 'smithed on, but also the flawless, almost black finish. It could just be the lighting, but every other K-22 OD I've seen pics of, even the 98%+ ones, have a lighter, more greyish finish.
ETA: Check out the notable K-22 thread:

It doesn't have any date stamps.
Does have a B on underside of the barrel.
Also has a B on the right side of the grip frame not the left.
Most pins and the side plate look clear enough from the pictures I think.
This is a picture of the one under the stocks.
Someone other than me may be able to tell from it.

Yup. It's the lighting. Some of the photos in the thread you linked to were taken in light boxes with white diffusers to lessen harsh reflections on the guns' shiny surfaces. The "grayish" appearance you're seeing is the reflection of those white diffusers on the shiny surface.
Personally, the finish looks righteous to me.

Congrats Paul! As to the finish,I have yet to see a pic that accurately captures the depth of the bluing on those pre-war Outdoorsman's,and there are some pretty fair photographers on this forum.
