TB, I'm pulling for you in the hopes that you have a truly outstanding piece. As others have mentioned if not something spectacular you will still have a fine shooter that will definitely please your wife. Pictures will solve all the questions...you do need to take the grips/stocks off the pistol and take pictures of both starboard and port side of the receiver under the "handles", that how to ascertain whether or not you have a V-spring and also if its a true Smith and Wesson there are usually stampings in this area that relate to how many times and for what reasons it was sent back to the factory. Which by the way the factory won't touch your "Pre WWI" revolver, their cut-off is no further back than maybe the 60's or 70's and I'm probably wrong their by a decade or two. If you revolver ends up being an honest to God .44 Hand Ejector 1st Model "Triplelock" you have yourself a truly fine piece of American Craftsmanship that many feel is not to be outdone by any other American revolver manufacturer, "Colt owners cry heresy". Best of luck to you, they are truly special.
